Thumbnail

Today we are releasing Files v4.2.7 for all users.

An update icon should be displayed in the top right corner of the app for existing users, while new users can get started from our download page. Additionally, you can help support the project by purchasing Files on the Microsoft Store or by sponsoring us on GitHub. Your support is greatly appreciated but entirely optional.

What’s New in Files v4.2.7

Improved context menu performance

Opening the right-click context menu is now noticeably faster and more responsive.

Open a new tab by middle-clicking the tab strip

You can now open a new tab by middle-clicking an empty area of the tab strip, giving you a quick way to add tabs without reaching for the new tab button.

Select items opened from other apps

When you open a file’s location from another application, Files now selects that item in the folder automatically.

Reduced memory usage after closing tabs

Files now frees up more memory when tabs are closed, helping keep the app lightweight during long sessions.

Fixes

  • Fixed issue with the filter text box being cleared.

Conclusion

As always, we appreciate your feedback and suggestions on how to improve Files. You can reach us on Discord and on GitHub.

Thank you for using Files! 😊
