Announcing Files v4.2.33

Thumbnail

Today we are releasing Files Preview v4.2.33 for users of the preview version.

An update icon should be displayed in the top right corner of the app for existing users, while new users can get started from our download page. Additionally, you can help support the project by purchasing Files on the Microsoft Store or by sponsoring us on GitHub. Your support is greatly appreciated but entirely optional.

What’s New in Files v4.2.33

Faster navigation

Building on the performance work from previous builds, navigating between folders is now noticeably quicker.

Sharper icons and thumbnails

Icons and thumbnails in the grid layout are now DPI aware, so they render crisply on high-resolution and scaled displays.

Progress reporting for Git operations

Long-running Git operations now report their progress, so you can see what’s happening instead of waiting on an operation with no feedback.

Lower memory pressure

Garbage collection is now tuned to run more efficiently while the app is in use, reducing memory pressure during everyday browsing.

Fixes

  • Fixed the Omnibar regaining focus when switching back to the window.
  • Fixed a crash when focusing the pane after Omnibar navigation.
  • Fixed a crash when dropping items onto a folder from another window.

Conclusion

As always, we appreciate your feedback and suggestions on how to improve Files. You can reach us on Discord and on GitHub.

Thank you for using Files! 😊
